Stage
totes for pick up
and drop off by an
Automated Storage
and Retrieval
System (AS/RS).
Solution:
Use
special conveyors
for the infeed and
the outfeed and
provide a custom
cart with a
conveyor deck,
electric lift and
custom carton
flow.
The AS/RS
stores incoming parts for
use in the manufacture of
larger assemblies. The
parts must be checked for
quality and then placed in
a tote and the tote
labeled and then stored in
the AS/RS.
The infeed conveyor
systems accumulate a
number of totes. Two totes
on each line are lifted
above the rollers for pick
up by the AS/RS pick up
device. The device has two
platforms that reach out
over the rollers and pick
up two totes at a time.
This reduces the number of
trips the AS/RS must make
to the pick up location.
The totes required by
manufacturing are dropped
off on a split roller
conveyor with a space
between the rollers. The
AS/RS platform sets the
tote on the rollers and
drops down then backs out.
The totes are conveyed
forward and accumulated
for pick up by a four
level cart. The tote moves
onto an electrically
powered lift which has
non-powered conveyor
rollers for the platform
surface.
Each cart level has
non-powered conveyor
rollers for the shelf. The
totes are raised or
lowered to the correct
shelf by the
operator-controlled lift.
The cart is the pushed to
Carton flow racking, which
has shelf levels that
match the shelf levels of
the cart. The totes are
pushed onto the rack
shelves.
